First hike of 2012

Jan 7 2012Today I headed to Santiago Peak (5600ft) as part of my monthly training. I started at 7am and it took me exactly 3 hours to get to the summit. I felt very comfortable hiking Holy Jim Trail today after having worked out all week at the gym plus having lived in Bogota for three months at 8500ft above sea level.
Weather was perfect. It was a bit chilly in the morning w temps in the low 50s but as I climbed up the sky cleared up n it became quite warm at the mid point and later in the hike.

For some odd reason ENDOMONDO did not register the last 40min of my hike on my way up. I guess it had to do w my phone’s lack of coverage over 4860ft. I am thinkin bout gettin a gps device to avoid all this hassle w/ my phone’s battery and network issues.

Next hike will be in San Bernardino late in Feb or March if weather permits.

-Personal time:
Heading up: 3hours
Total: 6h 15′
-Distance covered (one way): 13km / 26km round-trip

Another day at the Summit

Today I hit the Holy Jim Trail for the fifth time this year and I can honestly tell you I fkn smoked it (:
It took 3.5 hours to get to the summit….not bad taking into consideration the increment hot weather since I started climbing at 7am.
Met a couple w/ a toddler who took the wrong path on the way up n’ adviced them to take Upper Holy Jim trail on the way down. These couple were amazing hikers considering having a 9-old month w/ them.
Coming down was actually harder than goin up. I tried not to hurt my ankles due to lots of rocks small holes in the trail. I did slid n fell on my right wrist but fortunately didnt hurt.
The only bad thing that occured to me was on the way up when I slid into the water stream and got my socks soaked. Good thing I carried an extra pair of socks for the adventure.

My next tentative hike will be within the next month or so. I’m planning to hike Cucamonga Peak. Elevation gain is about the same as Santiago’s but it is over a higher terrain. Im keeping my fingers crossed for that hike

Here is 1 pix from today’s hike. Hope u like them.

Holy Jim Trail

Plans to hike Santiago Peak for the 4th time this season are looking great. There are more ppl interesting in hiking w/ me so that’s one of the reasons why I am putting aside Cucamonga peak for the moment cuz Santiago Peak is just a few miles from home.
The picture was taken by Tio Nacho on 17 June along Holy Jim Trail. We didn’t make it to the top but had an awesome time. Tentative date for my next hike will be around mid July.
